Singing Storytellers is…

…a multi-faceted public outreach program, involving a symposium in conjunction with Celtic Colours International Festival 2014 – with community events, learning opportunities, workshops, film screenings, exhibitions, the creation of new performance works and the presentation of an off-Broadway production that has toured the world, and scholarly presentations – in addition to the creation of digital media for educational and research purposes, and publications. This project, which brings together a multidisciplinary team of scholars and artist-pracitioners, is lead by Canada Research Chair in Communities and Cultures, Dr. Marcia Ostashewski (Cape Breton University), is facilitated through the involvement of several community, industry, government and institutional partners andsponsors.

As part of our project, an international interdisciplinary symposium was held October 9-12th 2014, hosted by Cape Breton University (CBU) in Nova Scotia, Canada. This symposium welcomed creative and critical engagement with the lives, music and verbal artistry of contemporary bards from around the world.

The Singing Storytellers Symposium was hosted by Canada Research Chair in Communities and Cultures, Dr. Marcia Ostashewski, the faculty of the Local Arrangements Committee, departments and schools at Cape Breton University, and an International Program Committee.
